About Us

Turning Point Church has long standing history and deep roots in our community. It was founded in 1933 when V.E. Mcanich and his wife Sophie started a small church in Muskegon Heights and called it “Muskegon Heights Gospel Tabernacle.” He served as pastor for 50 years until 1983 when Michael and Ester McCormick stepped in. In 1999 the church relocated to Norton Shores on Hile Rd., where it still remains. The church changed its name to “Norton Shores Gospel Tabernacle.”

In 2005, Kevin and Melissa McCormick stepped in. The church built an educational wing in 2010 to accommodate the kids. Because “Norton Shores Gospel Tabernacle” was a mouthful, the name was changed to “Turning Point Church” in 2014.

Turning Point has represented what all people must do: We must all come to a faith in Jesus Christ for salvation. Yet, even daily we come to “turning points” in our lives as the Lord faithfully sanctifies His people. As we humble ourselves, we allow God to make changes in us in order that we might look more like Jesus, every day.
